What is Digital Ear?

Digital Ear is software for converting a live or recorded solo musical performance into a MIDI file. Input may come from standard audio files (wav format) or live microphone input. The resulting MIDI file can be played by any synthesizer. You may use a different voice of your choice or import it into a sequencer for mixing with other tracks or other processing.

Unlike other converters, Digital Ear is capable of accurately reproducing vibrato, tremolo, pitch-bend, or portamento effects of your recorded sound. This is accomplished by sending high-resolution pitch events matching those of the original sound. The result is that Digital Ear can capture the expressive power of human voices or human musicians.

The Real-time edition of Digital Ear can convert audio directly from the microphone into MIDI. You can use your voice to control musical instruments or check your intonation with the on-screen pitch display. The possibilities are limitless.
